Abolakara

Abolakara stories are a set of traditional children’s stories from Odisha. Known after their petulant title character, they have been part of oral storytelling since centuries. Lively with idioms, couplets and humour — these stories were a testimony to the craft of storytelling in Odia. With lesser and lesser kids of the newer generation getting a chance to come across these stories, these stories are slowly fading away. This project was created to make traditional children’s literature in Odia available to everyone.

The stories have been translated into English by me.
The project was conceptualised by Dr. Devdutt Pattanaik.
